what are raisins?

raisins are the dried fruits of grapes.

Iranian raisins are known by different names depending on the type of the grapes,the method and conditions of drying and the permitted additives in them.

some of the most common raisins produced in Iran are green and yellow raisins and sultana raisins.

Iran is one of the largest exporters of raisins in the world. Along with the United States and Turkey, Iran is one of the top three raisin producing and exporting countries in the world.

Sun dried raisin:

grape without seed which is dried in front of the sun and becomes brown,has high quality and is tasty which is used for cooking with rice.

Shadow dried raisin:

this kind is dried in shadow and its color doesn’t change in remains green,

it has high nutritional value. Asgari is one of this kind.

Tizabi (Sultana) raisin:

the tizabi method is one of the method common raisin-making methods in the world,which uses alkaline liquids. in this method outer surface of The grapes are  impregnated with chemicals such as sulfur to speed up the drying process. tizabi raisins are yellowish and light brown.

Golden Brench raisin:

seed less grapes which are dried with sulfur smoke in the shadow and the color is amber yellow.

Maviz:

grapes with seed and high sugar are used to make a special kind of raisins which

are called Maviz.

Benefits of Raisins

Raisins are rich in vitamins and minerals such as B vitamins, iron, potassium, and calcium.

Raisins are low in fat and sodium ,and its potassium lowers blood pressure and prevents body fluids from being excreted. Raisins contain a good amount of fiber, antioxidants and energy in the body.

High fiber in raisin improves bowel function  and helps lower cholesterol. Fiber of raisins prevents colon cancer and cell destruction and relieves constipation.Nutritionists believe that eating a few raisins a day helps boost memory and protects against Alzheimer’s disease.
